Aarhus to Host 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships

At today’s 207th IAAF Council Meeting, the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships were awarded to Aarhus, Denmark.

Following the opening of the bidding process on 29 March 2016, the IAAF received expressions of interest from two cities: Hammamet (TUN) and Aarhus (DEN), but only Aarhus formally bid by the deadline of 15 October 2016.

Council awarded Aarhus the right to host the 2019 edition following an audio visual presentation which included proposals for supporting races for 2000 school children and a mass race which is expected to attract 8000 runners. The bid delegation was composed of Danish Federation Director Jakob Larsen, IAAF President Sebastian Coe, Danish Federation Head of Communications Henriette Lith Nielsen and Senior Events Consultant of the City of Aarhus.
